Rules of OBOS Empty
PostSubject: Rules of OBOS   Rules of OBOS EmptyThu May 28, 2009 1:31 am

These are the official rules for using Forumotion.

I did not write these rules, my rules are listed below in the second half of this page. However, these are useful rules and should be followed. Breaking these rules will bear the same consequences as breaking any other rules on the site. I don't like to be the person who has to enforce rules and pass out punishments for breaking rules, but I want this site to remain friendly and welcoming to current and future members.

- Defamatory, racist, hateful, pornographic, illegal or insulting content must be avoided on this forum. You must respect the fact that people may have a different opinion than you. If you are in conflict with another member, please use PMs for that, this board is not an arena!

- Please, be patient. It's useless to up your topic every 2 minutes. Every member of this forum has a private life besides Forumotion, so they can't always respond immediately.

- You must respect the moderators and administrators. They all work voluntarily on this forum and they are human, not machines!

- If you received advertising, pornographic content or insults by PM, you must send the whole copy (including the headers) to a moderator by PM. Posting it in a topic is useless and will only cause conflicts between you and the one who sent you the PM.

- If you found an Forumotion that doesn't respect the charter (can be seen when you create a board), PM a moderator instead of creating a topic. That will avoid undeliberate advertising.

- If you don't find your topic, it may have been moved to a more appropriate place. If you have a question, PM a moderator for that!

The official rules of OBOS

-Don't Bump Threads. A bad habit often seen on message boards is that people post messages with irrelevant content to existing threads for the sole purpose of refreshing threads so that the discussion appears current or is being kept near the top of the list of recent topics. This causes other posts to "scroll off" faster, and is widely considered an annoyance. The so-called "bumping" also triggers other forum users to constantly refresh their own threads as well, and sooner than later, the quality of the forum would suffer. For this reason, "bumping" is not welcome and may result in threads to be locked. Multiple responses to a thread are welcome, as long as they contribute constructively to the topic at hand.

-Stay on topic. I've created a number of different forum areas that are for a certain topic or range of topics. Making sure that you post your message to the appropriate section/board makes it much easier to find relevant information. Before you post a new message, please look at the available areas and read the descriptions carefully. We reserve the right to lock, move or delete threads that have been placed in the wrong section. If there isn't an area for your particular subject, please make a suggestion for a new category in the "Bugs Technical Support and Suggestions" thread or post your topic in the "Miscellaneous Discussion" area.

-Choose Appropriate Subjects. When you post a message, please make an attempt to come up with a relevant subject line. For instance, "Astral Projection Difficulties" is much better than "EVERYONE READ THIS !!". Using appropriate subject lines helps everyone to read messages that contain information that they are interested in.

-Mind the Family Atmosphere. Please keep the forum "family orientated". Language and topics need to be family-oriented and suitable for the appropriate audience. R-rated or adult content is not permitted on our message boards and will be deleted. This includes links to sites with adult content. I understand that some rituals and spells contain nudity, drug or alcohol references and in the case of history, violence. You are welcome to discuss these matters but please be tasteful. My intent isn't to censor you, but please remember that we do have younger members; it's not fair to them or their family's wishes to subject them to adult content.

-Be Constructive and Civil. Many people with different backgrounds, values, ethics and beliefs participate in our discussions. You'll encounter people that have opinions that you totally disagree with, and topics that are controversial. You are entitled to your opinion, and so is every one. I ask, however, that every forum participant respects the views of others. Agree to disagree, discuss and argue constructively -- do not resort to name-calling or slanderous accusations. Let your arguments speak for themselves without taking it to a personal level. Flames are discouraged, personal attacks and insults are a violation of the forum guidelines.

-Remember that Intent Matters. Posts made for the sole purpose of "fueling the fire", spreading false rumors in an attempt to worry or upset other forum participants, or dragging down the over all "climate" of our Community Forums, are not appropriate and will be deleted.

-Respect Administrative Decisions. If a message or a thread was deleted or closed, please do not repost the same message or thread. If you disagree with a decision and wish to express your opinion or clarify why you posted something, please contact a forum moderator or an administrator via the PM (private messaging) system.

Please be aware that all rules are subject to change at any time. I will update this page and make every attempt to notify members if and when the rules do change. Ignorance of a rule change is not an excuse for breaking any rule.

PostSubject: Punishment for Rule Violations   Rules of OBOS EmptyThu May 28, 2009 2:54 am

As stated before, I don't like to pass out punishments but sometimes it is necessary for the sake of OBOS and its members. Please respect my decisions. If you feel that you didn't break a rule or I have been too harsh or unfair, please PM me about it and we will discuss the matter there.

Minor infractions:
This includes the use of profanity, putting down other members, bumping your topics, creating topics that are irrelevant, or being generally rude.

- First Offense:A warning will be issued for minor infractions and the topic in question may be edited or deleted.
- Second Offense: A warning will be issued, the topic in question will be edited or deleted, and your posting privileges will be revoked for one week.
- Third Offense: A warning will be issued, the topic in question will be edited or deleted, and your posting privileges will be revoked for one month.
- Fourth Offense: You will be banned from the forum permanently. If there is an email I can reach you at, I will send you an email explaining why you have been banned. If there is no email, I will not go out of my way to reach you.

Major infractions
Major infractions include excessive hostility toward a member, posting X rated content or links to X rated content, breaking Forumotion's terms of service, hacking or attempted hacking and any other grossly unacceptable behavior.

-First Offense: You will be banned from the forum permanently. If there is an email I can reach you at, I will send you an email explaining why you have been banned. If there is no email, I will not go out of my way to reach you.

PostSubject: What to do if you feel a warning should be issued   Rules of OBOS EmptyThu May 28, 2009 8:52 am

If you feel a warning should be issued to someone, please PM a moderator about it -Don't take matters into your own hands-

If the person you feel has wronged you is too belligerent to reason with, simply leave the topic and wait for a moderator to answer you. Please understand that we moderators are not awake and online twenty-four hours a day but we will check as regularly as we can and address issues as soon as we have the chance. If you choose to stay and argue with them, understand that you will most likely be issued a warning too, as you are fueling the fire. If other people choose to jump into a full blown argument, they too will be issued a warning. I'm not dumb, I know the difference between a civil debate and an argument so please spare yourself and don't try to convince me otherwise.

If someone is sending you PM's that you do not wish to receive, your first step is telling them to stop. You have control of your own inbox. If their PM's continue after you've asked them to stop then send me the whole PM, including your responses and I will issue an official warning and either a three day, one month or permanent ban as I see fit.

Be aware that I will not tolerate harassment of any kind on this site.
